Jacksonville Beach Pop Warner Awards $10,000 in Academic Scholarships to Prior Participants

June 15th, 2006

Ten former Jax Beach Pop Warner participants received the Jacksonville Beach Pop Warner Academic Scholarship this year.  The association is proud to have been such an influential part of these young men and women’s lives.

Each recipient of the scholarship was given a panel interview by the Jax Beach executive board prior to selection.  When asked what they learned from Pop Warner every recipient replied with answers such as leadership, commitment, values and to never give up.  The skills these young people have learned are very evident as some of the titles they have earned are All-District, All-Conference, All-First Coast, All-American (by ESPN) and All-County Academic High Honors just to name a few.   They also continue to support their community by volunteering for organizations such as Habitat for Mankind, the Special Olympics, Builders Care, local elementary schools and, of course, Pop Warner.

The 2006 recipients are as follows:

Joe Barnhill, United States Military Academy at West Point

Allison Bennick, Florida Community College at Jacksonville

Justin W. Dixon, University of North Florida

Elliot R. Finkley, Bethune-Cookman College

Chris Guisti, Florida Atlantic University; International Business

Andrea LaMondie, University of Florida; Athletic Training

Josh Mitchell, Charleston Southern University

Zach Mitchell, Charleston Southern University

Erik Prince, Florida Community College at Jacksonville; Fire Science

Aftan Sparkman, University of North Florida; Deaf Education

The scholarship is awarded to past participants of Jax Beach Pop Warner that are graduating high school or are currently attending college.  Each recipient may re-apply each year up to four years for a scholarship of up to $1,000/year.  For more information about applying for the scholarship you may contact the association’s scholastics coordinator.
